The Boat Inn

23 October 2019

This was another successful small gathering at Thrupp. All the regulars came along, Mike and Chris, Bryan and Dorothy, and Tony and Judith. Derek Orgill and his wife Shirley, and John Bench and his wife Sylvia joined us for the first time and we were delighted to share their company. We’re all looking forward to many more of these outings. Photos

Mike Barnes, Mike Shilcock, Bryan Hobbs and Tony Mooney met again at the Jolly Boatman on Wednesday 25 May 2015. We sat indoors again as the weather was somewhat cold and overcast. The company was good and the conversation was good too. We talked a lot about old times and discussed the forthcoming 60th Anniversary reunion. We thought we’d meet again in November and perhaps bring our wives along.

Mike Barnes, Mike Shilcock, Bryan Hobbs and Tony Mooney got together again at the Jolly Boatman on Wednesday 11 November 2015. This time we sat indoors as it was somewhat chilly. We had a great time with our memories and anecdotes and we said as we were leaving that we’d do it again in about six months time. Watch the forum for details. Photos.

27 May 2015

Mike Barnes, Roger Threllfall, Bryan Hobbs and Tony Mooney got together at the Jolly Boatman on Wednesday 27 May 2015. It was a terrific afternoon sitting together by the side of the canal at the back of a charming Oxfordshire pub. It was just lovely in the sun with the bridge and some moored narrow-boats in view. The tow path was busy with walkers, runners and cyclists and a few ducks swam by too.

The food was good and the company was tremendous. Just four of us though but we talked and reminisced about our time and adventures as apprentices at Locking and had a great time. The waitress took some photos for our website on my phone but whatever she did there were no photos on it! I should have checked afterwards but she was so nice I didn’t think of it. Better luck next time.
